SEA - Seach Engine Advertising

The amount of advertising in searchengines (SEA) has strongly increased in the last couple of years. Large well-known searchengines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and others already have advertising space reserved on their website. These are shown above and next to the organic search results. Market leader Google shows the most advertisements. These searchengines call their advertisements 'AdWords'. Searchengines don't charge per advertisement shown anymore like websites normally would when your advertisements appear in their bannerspace. Google's AdWords work with an auction system, where several parties can bid on specific keywords (search terms). The highest bidders will get their advertisments shown when users search for that keyword.

Google Adwords

Google Adwords is the best-known SEA product. Adwords gives everyone the opportunity to bid on certain keywords which are important for their website through a fairly simple interface. Costs per click vary from a few cents to sometimes tens of euro's for the very popular search terms. At the moment, Google's largest source of income is SEA.
